Travel in the US just got slightly easier now that the Department of Homeland Security has extended the deadline to get REAL ID cards to May 2023. Illinois just started making them a year ago, but you have to go to a Secretary of State office in person to get one. Due to Covid-19, the lines at those facilities often stretch to the next facility a few kilometers away.

Reading that made me happier than reading most of the following:

• The Washington Post has two op-eds today that interested me for reasons other than their contents: one by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, and one by Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY).
• Writing for Bloomberg CityLab, Angie Schmitt advocates updating the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices to better represent road users who aren't in cars.
• Why did the UK and France deploy their navies to the island of Jersey?
• Bowling Green State University sociology professor Susan Brown says the Bill and Melinda Gates divorce "is emblematic of divorce trends in the United States as a whole."
• The investigation leading to local restaurant (and XPOTUS supporter) Tank Noodle paying $700,000 in back wages to its employees took two years and multiple complaints to state, local, and federal agencies.

And finally, Ravinia has announced its schedule for this summer, starting on June 4th.
