While we're waiting...
My Brews & Choos Buddy texted from her polling place at 11:15. Scroll all the way down to see how long it took her to vote!
While we're waiting for that, and for the other 29,000 races across the US, here are some things to read that aren't useless predictions about the results:
- Molly White has a breakdown of crypto and AI contributions to the parties and candidates, including $64 million to the Republican in the Ohio Senate race and $4.1 million to the Republican in the South Carolina Senate race.
- Matt Yglesias lists a few things you shouldn't bother to watch tonight, like demographic analyses based on exit polls, because they're less accurate than a doggy DNA test.
- US Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS) has decided that running an ad touting how many of his patients he has sued is a great way to win re-election.
- Francis Fukuyama reminds everyone who's really on the ballot in an election he calls a test of American democracy.
- Brian Beutler wants to hear winning Democrats to flex their power in their victory speeches tonight.
- James Fallows says, no matter which way any individual races go, "we've all become citizens again."
Finally, 58-year-old Karl Bushby has returned home to Hull, England, after walking almost 50,000 km around the world over the last 28 years. The walk included swimming the English Channel as he decided to complete the trip entirely under his own power. Werner Herzog, who is making a documentary about Bushby, was on hand to greet him. Imagine what the Garmin track would look like.
Update, 12:06 CST: My Brews Buddy has voted. Her 50-minute time was an improvement over the hour and 23 minutes it took in 2024, but a little longer than the 9 minutes it took me to vote last Tuesday. Early voting FTW!
