CaliforniaNot all about the election
Two days after the election, we still have 2 Senate races and about 50 in the House that haven't been decided. California and Mississippi both count ballots postmarked on election day, so we can't know the outcomes of some races until 14 and 5 days, respectively, after the vote. If Democrat Scott Colom wins his Senate race in Mississippi, it'll be comeuppance for sitting Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith.
Jeff Maurer just raised a really important point from last night's data, and that is that every Senate candidate US Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT) endorsed did worse than the winning governor in the same state:
Sit down, Don, you fat motherf---!
Democrats have won the biggest landslide (D+15) in any election since 1974, with the possible exception of 1976. And what happened in 1974? That's right: the previous champion in the Most Corrupt President in History contest got his ass handed to him. Because no matter how anyone tries to spin it, the biggest loser of the night was the OAFPOTUS. He wanted everyone to pretend he was on the ballot yesterday. Well, everyone did.
While writing the election night live blog, I keep thinking of the second movement of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, "Fortune plango vulnera:"
19:21 CST. We lead off tonight with completely unsurprising results from Illinois: JB Pritzker sailed to his 3rd term as Governor, Lt Governor Julianna Stratton won outgoing Senate minority whip Dick Durbin's seat, and we have absolutely no idea who won any of the board elections. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has declared that Democrat Jon Ossoff has won re-election to the Senate as well.
My Brews & Choos Buddy texted from her polling place at 11:15. Scroll all the way down to see how long it took her to vote!
We're finally in the home stretch! If you're reading The Daily Parker, that means you are literate in English, very good-looking, and already know it's Election Day in the US. And as in years past, I will report on the races I care about throughout the evening.
